Girl Scouts Give Boys Town Children New Place to Play
Boys Town California’s youngest children have a new, safe place to play thanks to the generosity of other children.
Junior Girl Scout Troop 1042 of Robinson Elementary School in Trabuco Canyon spent nearly 20 hours apiece refurbishing a patio into a nice play area for the residents of Boys Town's “Baby Home” as part of a community service project.
"The Girl Scouts of Troop 1042 of helped with part of our mission here at Boys Town to provide a hopeful, healthy and healing place for our kids," said Keith Rhodes, Boys Town California Executive Director as he cut the ribbon to open the recreation area.
The Baby Home provides family-like short-term emergency and crisis services to children from infancy to age 11 who have been removed from their families for their own safety. As part of the project, the Girl Scouts painted the room, made new curtains, built new shelves and benches and (with the help of a few fathers) installed a ceiling fan. The girls also organized the project themselves and collected the donations they needed to complete the project.
Businesses making donations were: Target Foothill Ranch, Lowes in Rancho Santa Margarita and Linens N' Things in Rancho Santa Margarita.
