Goes Back to School
Boys Town South Florida, a nonprofit organization serving at-risk youth and families, will kick off two new programs with the start of the school year. The goal of the School and Family Support Services and Primary Project programs is to impact at-risk students’ success in school by improving their social-emotional wellness.
“Both of these programs offer exciting opportunities to serve children and families in Palm Beach County,” said Amy Simpson, Boys Town South Florida Executive Director. “Our goal is to intervene before problems develop into more serious issues. Boys Town South Florida is providing the right care at the right time to help keep families together.”
Boys Town will offer School and Family Support Services at 48 elementary schools. A full-time Consultant will coordinate a universal screening process for students in kindergarten and first-grade, screening more than 12,000 children. Students who are at-risk will receive further assessment, and intervention services will be tailored to each child and family’s needs using Boys Town’s In-Home Family Services. Approximately 1,600 children and families will receive in-home and in-school services during the school year.
Primary Project is offered at 12 of the 48 schools. Serving nearly 600 students in the next year, Primary Project provides at-risk kindergarten and first-grade students 12 structured play sessions to improve their learning and adjustment skills needed for school success.
“Staff have been working throughout the spring and summer months to have both programs ready when school starts in August,” explained Dr. Seth Bernstein, Boys Town South Florida Program Director. “We are ready to roll!” |
